London has for a long time been considered the divorce capital of the world due to its high concentration of big-money settlements awarded to the poorer spouse in a break up.
This vibrant world city has meant many people from all over the globe have found fortune and happiness in London, but with the UK also having the highest rate of divorce in the EU, many of them in the capital, this historic rate of divorce is likely to continue.
With figures citing 2.8 divorces per thousand, only Finland, has comparable figures but a much smaller population.
A recovering economy also means the likelihood of an increase in divorce across London and the surrounding areas.
People buoyed by extra money in their pocket means that those in unsuccessful marriages are more likely to visit a divorce lawyer.
To add to this, research in the US has shown that divorce does increase in more buoyant economic times, most probably due to a belief that those in unhappy relationships can survive financially.
A study by the Population Research and Policy Review showed that while recession divorce rates among women dropped in 2008 and 2009, they increased again in 2010 and 2011 as the economy recovered.
