Divorce Figures Mask the Reality of Rocky Relationships
Sometimes you have to delve deeper than the headlines to really get the full picture of a story, and this is certainly the case when it comes to recent headlines regarding the fact that divorce rates continue to fall.
According to data released just before Christmas there were 111,169 divorces in 2014, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which is a 27 per cent decrease from the most recent peak in 2003.
What is even more notable is a 3.1 per cent drop from the previous year 114,720 divorces representing a 40 year low.
Further drilling down of the statistics showed there were 9.3 divorced men and women per 1,000 married ones, a 5.1 per cent drop from 2013.
To show how much this trend is taking hold, both of these figures represent huge drops from their peaks a decade earlier, when the divorce rate among men were 30.6 per cent higher and among women 29.5 per cent higher.
However, it doesn’t mean all is well in homes up and down the land.
Be it in London or elsewhere, relationships are still just as complex as they were, if not more so.
Here at Pindoria Solicitors our family law experts have a consistent number of clients consulting us, but the abolition of legal aid in 2013 meant that fewer people could afford legal help, whilst a massive rise in court fees has hit many who are finding life gruelling and are simply separating and as yet doing nothing about sorting out their finances.
To add to this, fewer people are marrying. Many do not feel the need for the formal structure of marriage and this is bound to alter the figures greatly.
This change in society’s view towards marriage is bound to have a profound effect on divorce figures.
The fact remains though that relationship break-up, especially when there are children involved are complex, and also one of the toughest times in an individual’s life.
Divorce, separation and relationship break up needs experienced professionals who can use their knowledge to ensure the best possible outcome for their client.
Anybody wishing to know more about marriage break-up or any other issues surrounding family law can speak to the divorce lawyers at Pindoria Solicitors confidentiality about their situation. We are happy to help.
