New Divorce Centres cutting bureaucracy not eroding importance of marriage

06 Jul 2015

As of now, there are eleven regional ‘divorce centres’ spread around the country, and the birth of them has certainly caused great media interest. Some have already criticised the move saying it is trivialising marriage. One of the critics former Conservative Minister Ann Widdecombe has likened it to “discarding an old carrier bag”.

However, we feel this is somewhat getting the wrong end of the stick. It isn’t intended to downgrade marriage, but instead to find a more efficient way of dealing with the paperwork involved.

Essentially, the centres purpose is to streamline uncontested divorces, which will be staffed by legal advisors, making divorce more of an administrative process than it has previously been. From a legal perspective, divorce is just a paper exercise, which should not involve highly paid Judges, who are much sought after.

Here in 2015, the divorce lawyers at Pindoria Solicitors think it doesn’t make sense to have highly qualified people making sure forms are completed correctly. The firms divorce solicitor should be involved contested divorce funding, financial settlements and children matters.

We are of the belief that the main part of divorce is not legal paperwork, but the human pain that a close relationship has failed leaving great pain and sadness for many. Witnessing it first-hand, we think anything that can lessen the upset has to be beneficial.

Under the new system, it is worth pointing out that judges will still be called upon to make the big decisions in divorce. For example, apart from overseeing the granting of divorce decrees, they will also be there to help resolve financial disputes, and also make decisions over the arrangements for children where agreement cannot be reached. Pindoria Solicitors team of divorce lawyers based in London can add real value for and children arrangements in event of a breakdown of a marriage.

In an era of red tape, the reforms have to be welcomed as anything that can be done simpler in a busy world surely is progress.
